Therefore be careful and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean,
(Judges 13:4)

But he said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. So then drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’

(Proverbs 20:1)

Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.
(Proverbs 21:17)

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things. ...
(Proverbs 23:29-35)

Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may run after strong drink, who tarry late into the evening as wine inflames them! They have lyre and harp, tambourine and flute and wine at their feasts, but they do not regard the deeds of the Lord, or see the work of his hands.
(Isaiah 5:11,12)

Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine, and valiant men in mixing strong drink,
(Isaiah 5:22)

These also reel with wine and stagger with strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed by wine, they stagger with strong drink, they reel in vision, they stumble in giving judgment.
(Isaiah 28:7)

Whoredom, wine, and new wine, which take away the understanding.
(Hosea 4:11)

“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.
(Luke 21:34)

Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.
(Romans 13:13)

If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

Envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

--Xavier Becerra – American Politician Born 1958

Alcohol doesn't console, it doesn't fill up anyone's psychological gaps, all it replaces is the lack of God. It doesn't comfort man. On the contrary, it encourages him in his folly, it transports him to the supreme regions where he is master of his own destiny.

Alcohol gives you infinite patience for stupidity.
--Sammy Davis, Jr. – American  Entertainer 1925-1990

--Marguerite Duras – French Novelist 1914-1996

Alcohol is like love. The first kiss is magic, the second is intimate, the third is routine. After that you take the girl's clothes off.

The Bible and Alcohol

What do the Scriptures say about alcohol, wine and liquor? "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler; and whoever is led astray by it is not wise." Proverbs 20:1, RSV.

Why are kings and rulers advised to not drink alcoholic drinks? "It is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, lest they drink and forget what the law decrees, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights." Proverbs 31:4-5, NIV.

With what sins is drunkenness classed? "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God." Galatians 5:19-21, NKJV.

What is one of the results of over-indulgence in food and drink? "Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags." Proverbs 23:20-21, NIV.

How do alcoholic drinks affect those who use them? "Whose heart is filled with anguish and sorrow? Who is always fighting and quarreling? Who is the man with bloodshot eyes and many wounds? It is the one who spends long hours in the taverns, trying out new mixtures. Don't let the sparkle and the smooth taste of strong wine deceive you. For in the end it bites like a poisonous serpent; it stings like an adder. You will see hallucinations and have delirium tremors, and you will say foolish, silly things that would embarrass you to no end when sober. You will stagger like a sailor tossed at sea, clinging to a swaying mast. And afterwards you will say, 'I didn't even know it when they beat me up.'" Proverbs 23:29-35, TLB.

Pure grape juice - not fermented wine - is a blessing to man. "As the new wine is found in the cluster and one says, 'Do not destroy it, for a blessing is in it.'" Isaiah 65:8, NKJV.

Our actions, no matter what they are, should be to bring glory to God. "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:30-32

Can I not just drink what I want? "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own." 1 Corinthians 6:19, NKJV.

The Bible offers a powerful alternative to drinking. "Do not get drunk with wine, which will only ruin you; instead be filled with the Spirit." Ephesians 5:18, TEV5
