And all that generation also were
gathered to their fathers. And
there arose another generation
after them who did not know
the Lord or the work that he had
done for Israel. And the people of
Israel did what was evil in the
sight of the Lord and served the
Baals. And they abandoned
the Lord, the God of their
fathers, who had brought them out
of the land of Egypt. They went
after other gods, from among the
gods of the peoples who were
around them, and bowed down to
them. And they provoked
the Lord to anger. They abandoned
the Lord and served the Baals and
the Ashtaroth. So the anger of
the Lord was kindled against
Israel, and he gave them over to
plunderers, who plundered them.
And he sold them into the hand of
their surrounding enemies, so that
they could no longer withstand
their enemies. ...
(Judges 2:10-23)

The people of Israel again did
what was evil in the sight of
the Lord and served the Baals and
the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria,
the gods of Sidon, the gods of
Moab, the gods of the Ammonites,
and the gods of the Philistines.
And they forsook the Lord and did
not serve him.
(Judges 10:6)

And as if it had been a light
thing for him to walk in the sins
of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he
took for his wife Jezebel the

Sidonians, and went and served
Baal and worshiped him. He erected

more to provoke the Lord, the God
of Israel, to anger than all the
kings of Israel who were before
him.
(1 Kings 16:31-33)

troubled Israel, but you have, and
your father's house, because you

the Lord and followed the Baals.
(1 Kings 18:18)

And you call upon the name of your
god, and I will call upon the name
of the Lord, and the God who
answers by fire, he is God.” And
all the people answered, “It is
well spoken.” Then Elijah said to
the prophets of Baal, “Choose for
yourselves one bull and prepare it
first, for you are many, and call
upon the name of your god, but put
no fire to it.” And they took the
bull that was given them, and they
prepared it and called upon the
name of Baal from morning until
noon, saying, “O Baal, answer us!”
But there was no voice, and no one
answered. And they limped around
the altar that they had made. And
at noon Elijah mocked them,
saying, “Cry aloud, for he is a
god. Either he is musing, or he is
relieving himself, or he is on a
journey, or perhaps he is asleep
and must be awakened.” And they
cried aloud and cut themselves
after their custom with swords and
lances, until the blood gushed out
upon them. ...
(1 Kings 18:24-29)
ESV
And Elijah said to them, “Seize
the prophets of Baal; let not one
of them escape.” And they seized
them. And Elijah brought them down
to the brook Kishon and
slaughtered them there.
(1 Kings 18:40)

And they abandoned all the
commandments of the Lord their
God, and made for themselves metal
images of two calves; and they
made an Asherah and worshiped all
the host of heaven and served
Baal.
(2 Kings 17:16)
ESV
And he deposed the priests whom
the kings of Judah had ordained to
make offerings in the high places
at the cities of Judah and around
Jerusalem; those also who burned
incense to Baal, to the sun and
the moon and the constellations
and all the host of the heavens.
(2 Kings 23:5)

In the prophets of Samaria I saw
an unsavory thing: they prophesied
by Baal and led my people Israel
astray.
