Bible Quotes

Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
(Job 38:2)

His speech is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.
(Psalms 55:21)

When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.
(Proverbs 10:19)

A man finds joy in giving an apt reply— and how good is a timely word!
(Proverbs 15:23)

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
(Proverbs 25:11)

Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
(Proverbs 29:20)

For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words.
(Ecclesiastes 5:3)

The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
(Ecclesiastes 10:12-14)

The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
(Ecclesiastes 12:11)

The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
(Isaiah 50:4)

But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
(Matthew 12:36,37)

All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.
(Luke 4:22)

So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air.
(1 Corinthians 14:9)

But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.
(1 Corinthians 14:19)

Inspirational Quotes from Famous People

He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words.
--
Elbert Hubbard quotes (American editor, publisher and writer, 1856-1915)

No man means all he says, and yet very few say all they mean, for words are slippery and thought is viscous.
--
Henry Brooks Adams quotes (American writer, 1838-1918)

Never part without loving words to think of during your absence. It may be that you will not meet again in this life.
--
Jean Paul Richter quotes (German Novelist and humorist, 1763-1825)

Some people never say the words 'I love you'. It's not their style to be so bold. Some people never say those words: 'I love you' But, like a child, they're longing to be told.
--
Paul Simon quotes (American Singer and Song Writer, b.1941)

Love is one of the hardest words to say and one of the easiest to hear.
--Unknown

Words are some of the most powerful and important things I know....Language is the tool of love and the weapon of hatred. It's the bright red warning flag of danger--and the stone foundation of diplomacy and peace.
--Unknown

Do not the most moving moments of our lives find us without words?
--Unknown

Be careful of your thoughts, they may become words at any moment.

Words and the Bible

Our words should please God. "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14, NIV.

Words are so powerful that silence is sometimes the best action. "He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin." Proverbs 13:3, NIV.

Our words reveal what is in our heart. "You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." Matthew 12:34, NIV.

Our words are important because we represent Christ. "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." Colossians 4:6, NIV.

What should characterize the words that we speak? "Dirty stories, foul talk and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead remind each other of God's goodness and be thankful!" Ephesians 5:4, TLB.

Our words can help others along life's way. "A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. Proverbs 25:11, NIV. "The Lord God has given Me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word." Isaiah 50:4, NIV

One of the commandments forbids the misuse of God's name. "You shall not use the name of Jehovah your God irreverently, nor use it to swear to a falsehood. You will not escape punishment if you do." Exodus 20:7, TLB.
