Bible Quotes

My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
(Proverbs 1:10)

14 Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.
(Proverbs 17:14)

3 It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.
(Proverbs 20:3)

8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame. 9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another: 10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
(Proverbs 25:8-10)

15 He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil- 16 this is the man who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him.
(Isaiah 33:15,16)

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. 26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
(Matthew 5:25,26)

And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
(Matthew 5:40)

58 When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison. 59 I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.
(Luke 12:58,59)

Inspirational Quotes from Famous People

A man's wife is his compromise with the illusion of his first sweetheart.
--
George Jean Nathan quotes (American Journalist, Critic, Essayist and Editor, 1882-1958)

Prudence and compromise are necessary means, but every man should have an impudent end which he will not compromise.
--
Charles Horton Cooley quotes

Never cut short your waiting with compromise. Simply put, the waiting's not over until the waiting's done.
--
Duke Rohe quotes

Quality, quality, quality: never waver from it, even when you don't see how you can afford to keep it up. When you compromise, you become a commodity and then you die.
--
Gary Hirshberg quotes

To be or not to be is not a question of compromise. Either you be or you don't be.
--
Golda Meir quotes (Israeli Founder and Prime Minister. 1898-1978)

I can't be a wife. I'm not that sort of person. Wives have to compromise all the time.
--
Sarah Brightman quotes

The 'morality of compromise' sounds contradictory. Compromise is usually a sign of weakness, or an admission of defeat. Strong men don't compromise, it is said, and principles should never be compromised.
--
Andrew Carnegie quotes (Scottish born American Industrialist and Philanthropist. 1835-1919)

If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is compromise.
--
Robert Fritz quotes

Peace won by the compromise of principles is a short-lived achievement.
--Unknown

A professional politician is a professionally dishonourable man. In order to get anywhere near high office he has to make so many compromises and submit to so many humiliations that he becomes indistinguishable from a streetwalker.
--
Henry Louis Mencken quotes (American humorous Journalist and Critic of American life who influenced US fiction through the 1920s, 1880-1956)

Courage, not compromise, brings the smile of God's approval.
--
Thomas S. Monson quotes (American Bishop, b.1927)

Compromise is usually bad. It should be a last resort. If two departments or divisions have a problem they can't solve and it comes up to you, listen to both sides and then pick one or the other. This places solid accountability on the winner to make it work. Condition your people to avoid compromise.
--
Robert Townsend quotes

Compromise: An amiable arrangement between husband and wife whereby they agree to let her have her own way.
--Unknown7

The Bible and Compromise

Pray that you will not compromise with temptation. "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." Matthew 26:41, TLB.

Don't even start down an evil path. "Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evil men. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way." Proverbs 4:14-15, TLB.

Don't let sinners influence you. "My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them." Proverbs 1:10, TLB.

The man who walks righteously does not compromise. "He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil—this is the man who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him." Isaiah 33:15-16, TLB.

You don't have to give in to compromise. "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." I Corinthians 10:13, TLB.

Don't give the devil a chance. "And do not give the devil a foothold." Ephesians 4:27, TLB.

There can be no compromise when it comes to the devil, we are either for Christ or Satan. "He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters." Matthew 12:30, NIV.

4. an endangering, esp. of reputation; exposure to danger, suspicion, etc.: a compromise of one's integrity.4

Compromise

In arguments, compromise is a concept of finding agreement through communication, through a mutual acceptance of terms—often involving variations from an original goal or desire. Extremism is often considered as antonym to compromise, which, depending on context, may be associated with concepts of balance, tolerance. In the negative connotation, compromise may be referred to as capitulation, referring to a "surrender" of objectives, principles, or materiale, in the process of negotiating an agreement. In human relationships "compromise" is often said to be an agreement that no party is happy with.

Cultural background and influences, the meaning and perception of the word "compromise" may be different: In the UK, Ireland and Commonwealth countries the word "compromise" has a positive meaning (as a consent, an agreement where both parties win something); in the USA it may rather have negative connotations (as both parties lose something).9
