How long before you are saved?

Grace and the Bible

Salvation comes through grace—it is a gift from God.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV

Does grace do away with God's law?
"Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law." Romans 3:31, NIV

God's grace is our only hope!
"But in your great mercy you did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God you are!" Nehemiah 9:31, TLB

God's grace makes our salvation possible.
"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding." Ephesians 1:7-8, NIV

God's grace is patient.
"Don't you realize how patient He is being with you? Or don't you care? Can't you see that He has been waiting all this time without punishing you, to give you time to turn from your sin? His kindness is meant to lead you to repentance." Romans 2:4, TLB5

Meaning of Divine Grace

In Christianity, grace is "unmerited favour" from God (Ephesians 2:8-9). In theology, grace may be described as 'enabling power sufficient for progression'. Grace divine is an indispensable gift from God for development, improvement, and character expansion, and without God's grace, there are certain limitations, weaknesses, flaws, impurities, and faults (i.e. carnality) mankind cannot overcome. Therefore, Christians believe it is necessary to increase in God's grace for added perfection, completeness, and flawlessness. From a nontheist perspective, the concept of divine grace appears to be identical to concept of luck.

More broadly, divine grace refers to God's gifts to all humankind, including life, creation, and salvation. More narrowly but more commonly, grace describes the means by which humans are granted salvation (and to some, saved from original sin). Grace is of central importance in the theology of Christianity, as well as one of the most contentious issues in Christian sectarianism.

Grace is often distinguished from mercy in that mercy is seen as not receiving punishment that one deserves to receive, whereas grace is the receipt of a positive benefit that one does not deserve to receive. Divine grace also can be defined as God's empowering presence in one's life, enabling one to do and be what one was created to do and be.6
