Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
(Proverbs 27:23)

She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
(Proverbs 31:14-18)

She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
(Proverbs 31:24)

There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.
(Ecclesiastes 4:8)

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
(Ecclesiastes 9:10)

He called them together, along with the workmen in related trades, and said: "Men, you know we receive a good income from this business.
(Acts 19:25)

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
(1 Thessalonians 4:11)

For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.
(James 1:11)

Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money."
(James 4:13)

Inspirational Quotes from Famous People

Time is the measure of business.
--
Francis Bacon, Sr. quotes (English Lawyer and Philosopher. 1561-1626)

Drive thy business, let not that drive thee.
--
Benjamin Franklin quotes (American Statesman, Scientist, Philosopher, Printer, Writer and Inventor. 1706-1790)

If you can't pay for a thing, don't buy it. If you can't get paid for it, don't sell it. Do this, and you will have calm and drowsy nights, with all of the good business you have now and none of the bad. If you have time, don't wait for time.
--
Benjamin Franklin quotes (American Statesman, Scientist, Philosopher, Printer, Writer and Inventor. 1706-1790)

Sloth makes all things difficult, but industry, all things easy. He that rises late must trot all day, and shall scarce overtake his business at night, while laziness travels so slowly that poverty soon overtakes him.
--
Benjamin Franklin quotes (American Statesman, Scientist, Philosopher, Printer, Writer and Inventor. 1706-1790)

A business that makes nothing but money is a poor kind of business.
--
Henry Ford quotes (American industrialist and pioneer of the assembly-line production method, 1863-1947)

The air is full of ideas. They are knocking you in the head all the time. You only have to know what you want, then forget it, and go about your business. Suddenly, the idea will come through. It was there all the time.
--
Henry Ford quotes (American industrialist and pioneer of the assembly-line production method, 1863-1947)

You have to have your heart in the business and the business in your heart.
--
Thomas Jefferson quotes (American 3rd US President (1801-09). Author of the Declaration of Independence. 1762-1826)

Don't forget until too late that the business of life is not business but living.
--
Barry C. Forbes quotes

In this business, by the time you realize you're in trouble, it's too late to save yourself. Unless you're running scared all the time, you're gone.
Bill Gates quotes (American Entrepreneur and Founder of Microsoft Co., b.1955)

Every business and every product has risks. You can't get around it.
--
Lee Iacocca quotes

In the end, all business operations can be reduced to three words: people, product and profits. Unless you've got a good team, you can't do much with the other two.
--
Lee Iacocca quotes

In modern business it is not the crook who is to be feared most, it is the honest man who doesn't know what he is doing.”
--
Pablo Casals quotes (Spanish Cellist and Conductor, known for his virtuosic technique, skilled interpretation and consummate musicianship. 1876-1973)

Confidence is the foundation for all business relations. The degree of confidence a man has in others, and the degree of confidence others have in him, determines a man's standing in the commercial and industrial world.

Business and the Bible

Where do material blessings come from? "But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth." Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV

Can money get in the way of more important things? Wealth can become the center of our life and take God's place. "This is what the Lord says: 'Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,' declares the Lord." Jeremiah 9:23-24, NIV

Wealth can give us wrong attitudes about material things. "Then [Jesus] said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." Luke 12:15 NIV

It is unwise to make financial success a priority. "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." Matthew 6:24, NIV
"People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction." 1 Timothy 6:9, NIV

While it is not impossible, it is difficult for the rich to become citizens of God's kingdom. "Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, 'How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!' The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus said again, 'Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.'" Mark 10:23-25, NIV

The love of money leads to evil. "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." I Timothy 6:10, NIV

Greed often accompanies prosperity and can lead to crime. "What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Isn't it because there is a whole army of evil desires within you? You want what you don't have, so you kill to get it. You long for what others have, and can't afford it, so you start a fight to take it away from them. And yet the reason you don't have what you want is that you don't ask God for it." James 4:1-2, TLB

It's true, the more you give, the greater will be your reward. "Sell your possessions and give to the poor: Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Luke 12:33-34, NIV

A valuable reminder for property owners. "And remember, the land is Mine, so you may not sell it permanently. You are merely My tenants and sharecroppers!" Leviticus 25:23, TLB

Contentment is not related to the amount of money or possessions. "I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation, whether it be a full stomach or hunger, plenty or want; for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power." Philippians 4:12-13, TLB

God asks us to return tithe (10 percent) and offerings to Him and in return He promises unlimited blessings. "Will a man rob God?" Yet you rob Me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob You?' "In tithes and offerings." Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." Malachi 3:8-10, NIV

Christ endorsed tithing. "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices, mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law, justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former." Matthew 23:23, NIV

How may all, rich and poor, honor God? "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." Proverbs 3:9, NIV

If we put God first, He will take care of all our needs. "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:33, NIV

What is the financial counsel of Solomon, the wisest and richest man who ever lived? "He who loves money shall never have enough. The foolishness of thinking that wealth brings happiness! The more you have, the more you spend, right up to the limits of your income, so what is the advantage of wealth—except perhaps to watch it as it runs through your fingers! The man who works hard sleeps well whether he eats little or much, but the rich must worry and suffer insomnia. There is another serious problem I have seen everywhere—savings are put into risky investments that turn sour, and soon there is nothing left to pass on to one's son. The man who speculates is soon back to where he began—with nothing. This, as I said, is a very serious problem, for all his hard work has been for nothing; he has been working for the wind. It is all swept away. All the rest of his life he is under a cloud—gloomy, discouraged, frustrated, and angry… . To enjoy your work and to accept your lot in life—that is indeed a gift from God. The person who does that will not need to look back with sorrow on his past, for God gives him joy." Ecclesiastes 5:10-20, TLB

What does the Scripture say about my monthly bills? "Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law." Romans 13:7-8, NIV

Be cautious about countersigning loan notes. "Unless you have extra cash on hand, don't countersign a note. Why risk everything you own? They'll even take your bed!" Proverbs 22:26-27, TLB

What reminder are we given about borrowing money? "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." Proverbs 22:7, NIV

God expects fairness in business dealings. "The Lord demands fairness in every business deal. He established this principle." Proverbs 16:11, TLB

Honesty and fairness are always expected of those who wish to please God. "I will tell you who can live here: All who are honest and fair, who reject making profit by fraud, who hold back their hands from taking bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong." Isaiah 33:15, TLB

It is important to work to earn a living. "Yet we hear that some of you are living in laziness, refusing to work, and wasting your time in gossiping. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we appeal to such people—we command them—to quiet down, get to work, and earn their own living." 2 Thessalonians 3:11-12, TLB

Meaning of Business

A business (also called a firm or an enterprise) is a legally recognized organization designed to provide goods and/or services to consumers. Businesses are predominant in capitalist economies, most being privately owned and formed to earn profit that will increase the wealth of its owners and grow the business itself.
