Inspirational Quotes from Famous People

I know elderly people who have so lived in their long lives. Today, they find great pleasure in each and every day.
--
Loretta Young quotes (American Actress, 1913-2000)

I prefer what I remember to what is going on today. I don't like what I see today, the irresponsibility, the lack of moral values, permissiveness, lack of respect for the elderly, irresponsibility toward society. It depresses me.
--
Ted Knight quotes

I will be father to the young, brother to the elderly.
--
King Fahd quotes (Saudi Arabia's King)

Old age and sickness bring out the essential characteristics of a man.
--
Felix Frankfurter quotes (American Jurist, 1882-1965)

Age is no barrier. It's a limitation you put on your mind.
--Unknown

The great thing about getting older is that you don't lose all the other ages you've been.
--Unknown

The old believe everything; the middle aged suspect everything: the young know everything.
--
Oscar Wilde quotes (Irish Poet, Novelist, Dramatist and Critic, 1854-1900)

Age should not have its face lifted, but it should rather teach the world to admire wrinkles as the etchings of experience and the firm line of character.
--Unknown

Seek the wisdom of the ages, but look at the world through the eyes of a child.
--
Ron Wild quotes

The excitement of learning separates youth from old age. As long as you're learning you're not old.
--Unknown

Age has extremely little to do with anything that matters. The difference between one age and other is, as a rule, enormously exaggerated.
--Unknown

There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.
--
Sophia Loren quotes (Italian film Actress, b.1934)

Wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age. Sometimes age just shows up all by itself.
--
Tom Wilson quotes (American actor, writer and comedian)

At the age of 20, we don't care what the world thinks of us; at 30, we worry about what it is thinking of us; at 40, we discover that it wasn't thinking of us at all.
--
40th birthday quotes.

It is well for the world that in most of us, by the age of thirty, the character has been set like plaster, and will never soften again.
--
William James quotes (American Philosopher and Psychologist, leader of the philosophical movement of Pragmatism, 1842-1910)

Old age: the crown of life, our play's last act.
--
Marcus Tullius Cicero quotes (Ancient Roman Lawyer, Writer, Scholar, Orator and Statesman, 106 BC-43 BC)

I don't believe one grows older. I think that what happens early on in life is that at a certain age one stands still and stagnates.
--
T.S. Eliot quotes (American born English Editor, Playwright, Poet and Critic, 1888-1965)

Forty is the old age of youth; fifty is the youth of old age.
--
Victor Hugo quotes (French romantic Poet, Novelist and Dramatist, 1802-1885)

Elderly and the Bible

Due honor should be given the elderly. "Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God." Leviticus 19:32, NIV.

Older men and women must be treated with respect. "Never speak sharply to an older man, but plead with him respectfully just as though he were your own father…Treat the older women as mothers." I Timothy 5:1, TLB.

Older people should be valued for their experience. "The glory of young men is their strength; of old men, their experience." Proverbs 20: 29, TLB.

The young can learn valuable lessons about life from the old. "And now that I am old and gray, don't forsake me. Give me time to tell this new generation (and their children too) about all Your mighty miracles." Psalm 71:18, TLB.

There is counsel for senior citizens. "Teach the older men to be serious and unruffled; they must be sensible, knowing and believing the truth and doing everything with love and patience. Teach the older women to be quiet and respectful in everything they do. They must not go around speaking evil of others and must not be heavy drinkers, but they should be teachers of goodness. These older women must train the younger women to live quietly, to love their husbands and their children, and to be sensible and clean minded, spending their time in their own homes, being kind and obedient to their husbands, so that the Christian faith can't be spoken against by those who know them." Titus 2:2-5, TLB.5

Definition of Elderly

1. somewhat old; near old age: a resort for elderly people.

2. of or pertaining to persons in later life.4

Meaning of Old Age

Old age consists of ages nearing or surpassing the average life span of human beings, and thus the end of the human life cycle. Euphemisms and terms for old people include seniors — chiefly an American usage — or elderly. As occurs with almost any definable group of humanity, some people will hold a prejudice against others — in this case, against old people. This is one form of ageism.

Old people have limited regenerative abilities and are more prone to disease, syndromes, and sickness than other adults. The medical study of the aging process is gerontology, and the study of diseases that afflict the elderly is geriatrics.9
