Bible Quotes

A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
(Proverbs 11:16)

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
(Proverbs 12:4)

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
(Proverbs 14:1)

Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.
(Proverbs 18:22)

House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.
(Proverbs 19:14)

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and: worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good. her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
(Proverbs 31:10-31)

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
(Ecclesiastes 9:9)

Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
(1 Corinthians 7:3)

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
(Colossians 3:18)

Wives and the Bible

What is the description of a good wife?
"If you can find a truly good wife, she is worth more than precious gems! Her husband can trust her, and she will richly satisfy his needs… .She is energetic, a hard worker, and watches for bargains. She works far into the night! She sews for the poor, and generously gives to the needy…She is a woman of strength and dignity, and has no fear of old age. When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule for everything she says. She watches carefully all that goes on throughout her household, and is never lazy. Her children stand and bless her; so does her husband. He praises her with these words; 'There are many fine women in the world, but you are the best of them all!" Proverbs 31:10-29, TLB

How should the wife relate to her husband?
"You wives must submit to your husbands' leadership in the same way you submit to the Lord. For a husband is in charge of his wife in the same way Christ is in charge of His body the church. (He gave His very life to take care of it and be its Saviour!) So you wives must willingly obey your husbands in everything, just as the church obeys Christ." Ephesians 5:22-24, TLB
"Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behaviour of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewellery and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful." I Peter 3:1-5, NIV

Does that mean the wife must do all the "give and take"? No! Marriage requires submission by both partners.
"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ." Ephesians 5:21, NIV5
