By faith Moses, when he was come
to years, refused to be called the
son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to
suffer affliction with the people
of God, than to enjoy the
pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach
of Christ greater riches than the
treasures in Egypt: for he had
respect unto the recompence of the
reward.
(Hebrews 11:24-26)

Bible Quotes |
He that loveth pleasure
shall be a poor man: he that
loveth wine and oil shall not be
rich.
(Proverbs 21:17)
Be not among
winebibbers; among riotous eaters
of flesh: For the drunkard and
the glutton shall come to poverty:
and drowsiness shall clothe a man
with rags.
(Proverbs 23:20,21)
Boast not thyself of
to morrow; for thou knowest not
what a day may bring forth. The full soul loatheth
an honeycomb; but to the hungry
soul every bitter thing is sweet.
(Proverbs 27:1,7)
All things are full of
labour; man cannot utter it: the
eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor the ear filled with hearing.
(Ecclesiastes 1:8)
I
said in mine heart, Go
to now, I will prove thee with
mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure:
and, behold, this also is vanity. I said of laughter, It
is mad: and of mirth, What doeth
it? I sought in mine heart
to give myself unto wine, yet
acquainting mine heart with
wisdom; and to lay hold on folly,
till I might see what was that
good for the sons of men, which
they should do under the heaven
all the days of their life. I made me great works; I
builded me houses; I planted me
vineyards: I made me gardens and
orchards, and I planted trees in
them of all kind of fruits: I made me pools of
water, to water therewith the wood
that bringeth forth trees: I got me servants and
maidens, and had servants born in
my house; also I had great
possessions of great and small
cattle above all that were in
Jerusalem before me: I gathered me also
silver and gold, and the peculiar
treasure of kings and of the
provinces: I gat me men singers
and women singers, and the
delights of the sons of men, as
musical instruments, and that of
all sorts. So I was great, and
increased more than all that were
before me in Jerusalem: also my
wisdom remained with me. And whatsoever mine
eyes desired I kept not from them,
I withheld not my heart from any
joy; for my heart rejoiced in all
my labour: and this was my portion
of all my labour. Then I looked on all
the works that my hands had
wrought, and on the labour that I
had laboured to do: and, behold,
all was vanity and vexation of
spirit, and there was no profit
under the sun. And I turned myself to
behold wisdom, and madness, and
folly: for what can the man do
that cometh after the king? even
that which hath been already done.
(Ecclesiastes 2:1-12)
Seeing there be many
things that increase vanity, what
is man the better? For who knoweth what is
good for man in this life, all the
days of his vain life which he
spendeth as a shadow? for who can
tell a man what shall be after him
under the sun?
(Ecclesiastes 6:11,12)
Then I commended mirth,
because a man hath no better thing
under the sun, than to eat, and to
drink, and to be merry: for that
shall abide with him of his labour
the days of his life, which God
giveth him under the sun. When I applied mine
heart to know wisdom, and to see
the business that is done upon the
earth: (for also there is that
neither day nor night seeth sleep
with his eyes:) Then I beheld all the
work of God, that a man cannot
find out the work that is done
under the sun: because though a
man labour to seek it out, yet he
shall not find it; yea further;
though a wise man think to know
it, yet shall he not be able to
find it.
(Ecclesiastes 8:15-17)
A feast is made for
laughter, and wine maketh merry:
but money answereth all things.
(Ecclesiastes 10:19)
Rejoice, O young man, in
thy youth; and let thy heart cheer
thee in the days of thy youth, and
walk in the ways of thine heart,
and in the sight of thine eyes:
but know thou, that for all these
things God will bring thee into
judgment. Therefore remove sorrow
from thy heart, and put away evil
from thy flesh: for childhood and
youth are vanity.
(Ecclesiastes 11:9,10)
Therefore I say unto
you, Take no thought for your
life, what ye shall eat, or what
ye shall drink; nor yet for your
body, what ye shall put on. Is not
the life more than meat, and the
body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the
air: for they sow not, neither do
they reap, nor gather into barns;
yet your heavenly Father feedeth
them. Are ye not much better than
they? Which of you by taking
thought can add one cubit unto his
stature? And why take ye thought
for raiment? Consider the lilies
of the field, how they grow; they
toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you,
That even Solomon in all his glory
was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so
clothe the grass of the field,
which to day is, and to morrow is
cast into the oven, shall he not
much more clothe you, O ye of
little faith? Therefore take no
thought, saying, What shall we
eat? or, What shall we drink? or,
Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these
things do the Gentiles seek:) for
your heavenly Father knoweth that
ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the
kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these
things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no
thought for the morrow: for the
morrow shall take thought for the
things of itself. Sufficient unto
the day is the evil thereof.
(Matthew 6:25-34)
For what is a man profited, if he
shall gain the whole world, and
lose his own soul? or what shall a
man give in exchange for his soul?
(Matthew 16:26)
For as in the days that
were before the flood they were
eating and drinking, marrying and
giving in marriage, until the day
that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the
flood came, and took them all
away; so shall also the coming of
the Son of man be.
(Matthew 24:38,39)
If ye were of the world, the world
would love his own: but because ye
are not of the world, but I have
chosen you out of the world,
therefore the world hateth you.
(John 15:19)
And be not conformed to this
world: but be ye transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that ye
may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of
God.
(Romans 12:2)
But this I say, brethren, the time
is short: it remaineth, that both
they that have wives be as though
they had none; And they that weep,
as though they wept not; and they
that rejoice, as though they
rejoiced not; and they that buy,
as though they possessed not; And
they that use this world, as not
abusing it: for the fashion of
this world passeth away.
(1 Corinthians 7:29-31)
Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we
should live soberly, righteously,
and godly, in this present world;
(Titus 2:12)
Ye adulterers and adulteresses,
know ye not that the friendship of
the world is enmity with God?
whosoever therefore will be a
friend of the world is the enemy
of God.
(James 4:4)
Ye have lived in
pleasure on the earth, and been
wanton; ye have nourished your
hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
(James 5:5)
As obedient children,
not fashioning yourselves
according to the former lusts in
your ignorance: For all flesh is as
grass, and all the glory of man as
the flower of grass. The grass
withereth, and the flower thereof
falleth away:
(1 Peter 1:14,24)
Dearly beloved, I
beseech you as strangers and
pilgrims, abstain from fleshly
lusts, which war against the soul;
(1 Peter 2:11)
Love not the world, neither the
things that are in the world. If
any man love the world, the love
of the Father is not in him. For
all that is in the world, the lust
of the flesh, and the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life, is
not of the Father, but is of the
world. And the world passeth away,
and the lust thereof: but he that
doeth the will of God abideth for
ever.
(1 John 2:15-17)

Inspirational Quotes from Famous People |
There is no more
mistaken path to happiness than
worldliness, revelry, high life.
--Arthur Schopenhauer
quotes (German Philosopher,
1788-1860)
The magnetic
needle always points to the north,
and hence it is that sailing
vessel does not lose her
direction. So long as the heart of
man is directed towards God, he
cannot be lost in the ocean of
worldliness.
--Ramakrishna quotes
Riches are not
from abundance of worldly goods,
but from a contented mind.
--Unknown
A man should
hear a little music, read a little
poetry, and see a fine picture
every day of his life, in order
that worldly cares may not
obliterate the sense of the
beautiful which God has implanted
in the human soul.
--Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
quotes (German Playwright, Poet,
Novelist and Dramatist. 1749-1832)
Nothing more
clearly shows how little God
esteems his gift to men of wealth,
money, position and other worldly
goods, than the way he distributes
these, and the sort of men who are
most amply provided with them.
--Jean de la Bruyere quotes
(French satiric moralist,
1645-1696)
Worldly riches
are like nuts; many a tooth is
broke in cracking them, but never
is the stomach filled with eating
them.
--Rabbi Nachman quotes
Worldly faces
never look so worldly as at a
funeral.
--George Eliot quotes
(English Victorian Novelist.
Pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans,

Of all the
worldly passions, lust is the most
intense. All other worldly
passions seem to follow in its
train.
--Buddha quotes (Hindu Prince
Gautama Siddharta, the founder of
Buddhism, 563-483 B.C.)
Worldly fame is
but a breath of wind that blows
now this way, and now that, and
changes name as it changes
direction.
--Dante Alighieri quotes (Italian
Author and Poet. Considered one of
the greatest poets in all
literature, 1265-1321)
Do not get
attached to worldly things and
pursuits. Be in the world, but do
not let the world be in you.
--Sri Sathya Sai Baba quotes
(Indian Spiritual leader, b.1926)
