Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and
doeth them, I will liken him unto
a wise man, which built his house
upon a rock: And the rain descended,
and the floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell not: for it was
founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and
doeth them not, shall be likened
unto a foolish man, which built
his house upon the sand: And the rain descended,
and the floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell: and great was the
fall of it.
(Matthew 7:24-27)
Now learn a parable of
the fig tree; When his branch is
yet tender, and putteth forth
leaves, ye know that summer is
nigh: So likewise ye, when ye
shall see all these things, know
that it is near, even at the
doors.
(Matthew 24:32,33)

(Matthew 24:32,33)
Whosoever cometh to me,
and heareth my sayings, and doeth
them, I will shew you to whom he
is like: He is like a man which
built an house, and digged deep,
and laid the foundation on a rock:
and when the flood arose, the
stream beat vehemently upon that
house, and could not shake it: for
it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth,
and doeth not, is like a man that
without a foundation built an
house upon the earth; against
which the stream did beat
vehemently, and immediately it
fell; and the ruin of that house
was great.
(Luke 6:47-49)
And he said unto them,
Which of you shall have a friend,
and shall go unto him at midnight,
and say unto him, Friend, lend me
three loaves; For a friend of mine in
his journey is come to me, and I
have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall
answer and say, Trouble me not:
the door is now shut, and my
children are with me in bed; I
cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though
he will not rise and give him,
because he is his friend, yet
because of his importunity he will
rise and give him as many as he
needeth.
(Luke 11:5-8)
And he spake a parable
unto them, saying, The ground of a
certain rich man brought forth
plentifully: And he thought within
himself, saying, What shall I do,
because I have no room where to
bestow my fruits? And he said, This will
I do: I will pull down my barns,
and build greater; and there will
I bestow all my fruits and my
goods. And I will say to my
soul, Soul, thou hast much goods
laid up for many years; take thine
ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him,
Thou fool, this night thy soul
shall be required of thee: then
whose shall those things be, which
thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up
treasure for himself, and is not
rich toward God.
(Luke 12:16-21)
Let your loins be
girded about, and your lights
burning; And ye yourselves like
unto men that wait for their lord,
when he will return from the
wedding; that when he cometh and
knocketh, they may open unto him
immediately. Blessed are those
servants, whom the lord when he
cometh shall find watching: verily
I say unto you, that he shall gird
himself, and make them to sit down
to meat, and will come forth and
serve them. And if he shall come in
the second watch, or come in the
third watch, and find them so,
blessed are those servants. And this know, that if
the goodman of the house had known
what hour the thief would come, he
would have watched, and not have
suffered his house to be broken
through. Be ye therefore ready
also: for the Son of man cometh at
an hour when ye think not.
(Luke 12:35-40)
And he said, A certain man had two
sons: And the younger of them said
to his father, Father, give me the
portion of goods that falleth to
me. And he divided unto them his
living. And not many days after
the younger son gathered all
together, and took his journey
into a far country, and there
wasted his substance with riotous
living. And when he had spent all,
there arose a mighty famine in
that land; and he began to be in
want. And he went and joined
himself to a citizen of that
country; and he sent him into his
fields to feed swine. And he would
fain have filled his belly with
the husks that the swine did eat:
and no man gave unto him. And when
he came to himself, he said, How
many hired servants of my father's
have bread enough and to spare,
and I perish with hunger! I will
arise and go to my father, and
will say unto him, Father, I have
sinned against heaven, and before
thee, And am no more worthy to be
called thy son: make me as one of
thy hired servants. And he arose,
and came to his father. But when
he was yet a great way off, his
father saw him, and had
compassion, and ran, and fell on
his neck, and kissed him. And the
son said unto him, Father, I have
sinned against heaven, and in thy
sight, and am no more worthy to be
called thy son. But the father
said to his servants, Bring forth
the best robe, and put it on him;
and put a ring on his hand, and
shoes on his feet: And bring
hither the fatted calf, and kill
it; and let us eat, and be merry:
For this my son was dead, and is
alive again; he was lost, and is
found. And they began to be merry.
Now his elder son was in the
field: and as he came and drew
nigh to the house, he heard musick
and dancing. And he called one of
the servants, and asked what these
things meant. And he said unto
him, Thy brother is come; and thy
father hath killed the fatted
calf, because he hath received him
safe and sound. And he was angry,
and would not go in: therefore
came his father out, and intreated
him. And he answering said to his
father, Lo, these many years do I
serve thee, neither transgressed I
at any time thy commandment: and
yet thou never gavest me a kid,
that I might make merry with my
friends: But as soon as this thy
son was come, which hath devoured
thy living with harlots, thou hast
killed for him the fatted calf.
And he said unto him, Son, thou
art ever with me, and all that I
have is thine. It was meet that we
should make merry, and be glad:
for this thy brother was dead, and
is alive again; and was lost, and
is found.

Every happening,
great and small, is a parable
whereby God speaks to us, and the
art of life is to get the message.
--Malcolm Muggeridge quotes
Christ does not
save us by acting a parable of
divine love; he acts the parable
of divine love by saving us. That
is the Christian faith.
