Lyrics

1 The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.
2 Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.
3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.
4 The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.
5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.1

About Psalm 93

This Psalm has no title either in the Hebrew or Chaldee. The Vulgate, Septuagint, AEthiopic, and Arabic, state it to be "A song of praise of David for the day preceding the Sabbath, when the earth was founded;" but in such a title there is no information on which any man can rely.2

A Royal Psalm

Psalm 93 celebrates Jehovah as Sovereign of the universe. It is a picture of the magnificent enthronement of Deity upon a throne established from everlasting to everlasting. The psalm is the first of a series of royal psalms (Ps. 93 to 101) glorifying God as Creator and Lord. Psalm 93 shows His power in control of creation, in the overthrow of His enemies, in the faithfulness of His word, and in the holiness of His house.3

Summary of Psalm 93

Concerning God's kingdom glorious things are here spoken.
I. Have other kings their royal robes? So has he (v. 1).
II. Have they their thrones? So has he (v. 2).
III. Have they their enemies whom they subdue and triumph over? So has he (v. 3, 4).
IV. Is it their honour to be faithful and holy? So it is his (v. 5).4
