Bible Quotes
19Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. 20Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: 21For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
(Proverbs 23:19-21) KJV

Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
(Song of Solomon 2:15) KJV

15For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. 17They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.
(Isaiah 66:15,17) KJV

12 "Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see." 14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days. 15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead. 17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.
(Daniel 1:12-17) NIV

17But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; 18That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
(Matthew 6:17,18) KJV

19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
(1 Corinthians 6:19,20) NIV

Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.
(Philippians 3:19) NIV

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
(Philippians 4:5) KJV

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
(1 Timothy 4:8) KJV

Inspirational Quotes from Famous People

I have a great diet. You're allowed to eat anything you want, but you must eat it with naked fat people.”
--Unknown

If you need medical advice, let these three things be your physicians; a cheerful mind, relaxation from business, and a moderate diet.
--Unknown

During my life, I have often had to eat my own words, and on the whole I have found them a wholesome diet.
--
Winston Churchill quotes (British Orator, Author and Prime Minister during World War II. 1874-1965)

A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand.
--Unknown

Probably nothing in the world arouses more false hopes than the first four hours of a diet.
--
Dan Bennett quotes

Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie.
--
Jim Davis quotes (American Actor. 1915-1981)

The second day of a diet is always easier than the first. By the second day you're off it.
--Jackie Gleason quotes (US comedian/actor (1916-1987))

I told my doctor I get very tired when I go on a diet, so he gave me pep pills. Know what happened? I ate faster.
--
Joe E. Lewis quotes (American Comedian and Singer, 1902-1971)

I feel about airplanes the way I feel about diets. It seems to me that they are wonderful things for other people to go on.
--
Jean Kerr quotes (American Writer, 1923-2003)

Gluttony is the source of all our infirmities and the fountain of all our diseases. As fire extinguished by an excess of fuel, so is the natural health of the body destroyed by an intemperate diet.
--
Burton quotes

I highly recommend worrying. It is much more effective than dieting.

Diet and the Bible

What was the original diet did God provide for man? "Then God said, 'I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food." Genesis 1:29 NIV.

Immediately after the flood, when little if any vegetation remained, what did God say about diet? "All wild animals and birds and fish will be afraid of you, God told him; 'for I have placed them in your power, and they are yours to use for food, in addition to grain and vegetables. But never eat animals unless their life-blood has been drained off." Genesis 9:2-4, TLB.

The people were to be careful about their food and make a distinction between what was good for them and what wasn't. "You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten." Leviticus 11:47, NIV. (See Leviticus 11 for further details).

The distinction between the clean and unclean was not just a Jewish prohibition. It was in effect before Abraham, the first Jew. "The Lord then said to Noah, 'Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a mate and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a mate and its mate'" Genesis 7:1,2, NIV.

This distinction between the clean and unclean will continue to the end of time. "See, the Lord is coming with fire, and His chariots are like a whirlwind; He will bring down His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire...Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following the one in the midst of those who eat the flesh of pigs and rats and other abominable things they will meet their end together, declares the Lord." Isaiah 66:15,17 NIV.

What example did Daniel set in the importance of proper diet? "But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way." Daniel 1:8, NIV.

What did he eat instead? "Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink." Daniel 1:12, NIV.

Why should we exercise self-control in our dietary habits? "It is because you must do everything for the glory of God, even your eating and drinking." I Corinthians 10:31, TLB.5

Meaning of Diet

In nutrition, the diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. Although humans are omnivores, each culture holds some food preferences and some food taboos. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy. Proper nutrition requires the proper ingestion and equally important, the absorption of vitamins, minerals, and fuel in the form of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in health and mortality, and can also define cultures and play a role in religion.9

Meaning of Dieting

Dieting is the practice of ingesting food in a regulated fashion to achieve or maintain a controlled weight. In most cases the goal is weight loss in those who are overweight or obese, but some athletes aspire to gain weight (usually in the form of muscle) and diets can also be used to maintain a stable body weight.

Diets to promote weight loss are generally divided into four categories: low-fat, low-carbohydrate, low-calorie, and very low calorie. A meta-analysis of six randomized controlled trials found no difference between the main diet types (low calorie, low carbohydrate, and low fat), with a 2–4 kilogram weight loss in all studies. At two years all diet types cause equal weight loss irrespective of the macronutrients emphasized.10
