For there is no
faithfulness in their mouth; their
inward part is very
wickedness;
their throat is an open sepulchre;
they flatter with their tongue.
(Psalm 5:9)
He that worketh deceit
shall not dwell within my house:
he that telleth lies shall not
tarry in my sight.
(Psalm 101:7)
The sacrifice of the
wicked is abomination: how much
more, when he bringeth it with a
wicked mind?
(Proverbs 21:27)
Eat thou not the bread
of him that hath an evil eye,
neither desire thou his dainty
meats: For as he thinketh in
his heart, so is he: Eat and
drink, saith he to thee; but his
heart is not with thee.
(Proverbs 23:6,7)
Confidence in an
unfaithful man in time of trouble
is like a broken tooth, and a foot
out of joint.
(Proverbs 25:19)
As a mad man who
casteth firebrands, arrows, and
death,
(Proverbs 26:18)
Burning lips and a
wicked heart are like a potsherd
covered with silver dross. He that hateth
dissembleth with his lips, and
layeth up deceit within him; When he speaketh fair,
believe him not: for there are
seven abominations in his heart. Whose hatred is covered
by deceit, his wickedness shall be
shewed before the whole
congregation.
(Proverbs 26:23-26)
She weepeth sore in the
night, and her tears are on her
cheeks: among all her lovers she
hath none to comfort her: all her
friends have dealt treacherously
with her, they are become her
enemies.
(Lamentations 1:2)
Take heed that ye do not
your alms before men, to be seen
of them: otherwise ye have no
reward of your Father which is in
heaven. Therefore when thou
doest thine alms, do not sound a
trumpet before thee, as the
hypocrites do in the synagogues
and in the streets, that they may
have glory of men. Verily I say
unto you, They have their reward.
(Matthew 6:1,2)
And when thou prayest,
thou shalt not be as the
hypocrites are: for they love to
pray standing in the synagogues
and in the corners of the streets,
that they may be seen of men.
Verily I say unto you, They have
their reward.
(Matthew 6:5)
Moreover when ye fast,
be not, as the hypocrites, of a
sad countenance: for they
disfigure their faces, that they
may appear unto men to fast.
Verily I say unto you, They have
their reward.
(Matthew 6:16)
No man can serve two
masters: for either he will hate
the one, and love the other; or
else he will hold to the one, and
despise the other. Ye cannot serve
God and mammon.
(Matthew 6:24)
Thou hypocrite, first
cast out the beam out of thine own
eye; and then shalt thou see
clearly to cast out the mote out
of thy brother's eye. Beware of false
prophets, which come to you in
sheep's clothing, but inwardly
they are ravening wolves. Not every one that
saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall
enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that doeth the will of my
Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in
that day, Lord, Lord, have we not
prophesied in thy name? and in thy
name have cast out devils? and in
thy name done many wonderful
works? And then will I profess
unto them, I never knew you:
depart from me, ye that work
iniquity.
(Matthew 7:5,15,21-23)
Ye hypocrites, well did
Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh
unto me with their mouth, and
honoureth me with their lips; but
their heart is far from me. But in vain they do
worship me, teaching for doctrines
the commandments of men.
(Matthew 15:7-9)
But woe unto you,
scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
for ye shut up the kingdom of
heaven against men: for ye neither
go in yourselves, neither suffer
ye them that are entering to go
in. Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye
devour widows' houses, and for a
pretence make long prayer:
therefore ye shall receive the
greater damnation. Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye
compass sea and land to make one
proselyte, and when he is made, ye
make him twofold more the child of
hell than yourselves.
(Matthew 23:13-15)
The lord of that
servant shall come in a day when
he looketh not for him, and in an
hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him
asunder, and appoint him his
portion with the hypocrites: there
shall be weeping and gnashing of
teeth.
(Matthew 24:50,51)
And why call ye me,
Lord, Lord, and do not the things
which I say?
(Luke 6:46)
And the Lord said unto
him, Now do ye Pharisees make
clean the outside of the cup and
the platter; but your inward part
is full of ravening and
wickedness. But woe unto you,
Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and
rue and all manner of herbs, and
pass over judgment and the love of
God: these ought ye to have done,
and not to leave the other undone. Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye
are as graves which appear not,
and the men that walk over them
are not aware of them. Woe unto you, lawyers!
for ye have taken away the key of
knowledge: ye entered not in
yourselves, and them that were
entering in ye hindered.
(Luke 11:39,42,44,52)
In the mean time, when
there were gathered together an
innumerable multitude of people,
insomuch that they trode one upon
another, he began to say unto his
disciples first of all, Beware ye
of the leaven of the Pharisees,
which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing
covered, that shall not be
revealed; neither hid, that shall
not be known.
(Luke 12:1,2)
And he said also to the
people, When ye see a cloud rise
out of the west, straightway ye
say, There cometh a shower; and so
it is. And when ye see the
south wind blow, ye say, There
will be heat; and it cometh to
pass. Ye hypocrites, ye can
discern the face of the sky and of
the earth; but how is it that ye
do not discern this time?
(Luke 12:54-56)
For if a man think himself to be
something, when he is nothing, he
deceiveth himself.
(Galatians 6:3)
Wherefore laying aside
all malice, and all guile, and
hypocrisies, and envies, and all
evil speakings, As free, and not using
your liberty for a cloke of
maliciousness, but as the servants
of God.
(1 Peter 2:1,16)
He that saith, I know him, and
keepeth not his commandments, is a
liar, and the truth is not in him.
(1 John 2:4)
