And on the seventh day
God ended his work which he had
made; and he rested on the seventh
day from all his work which he had
made. And God blessed the
seventh day, and sanctified it:
because that in it he had rested
from all his work which God
created and made.
(Genesis 2:2,3)
Remember the sabbath
day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou
labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is
the sabbath of the LORD thy God:
in it thou shalt not do any work,
thou, nor thy son, nor thy
daughter, thy manservant, nor thy
maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor
thy stranger that is within thy
gates: For in six days the
LORD made heaven and earth, the
sea, and all that in them is, and
rested the seventh day: wherefore
the LORD blessed the sabbath day,
and hallowed it.
(Exodus 20:8-11)
Speak thou also unto the children
of Israel, saying, Verily my
sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is
a sign between me and you
throughout your generations; that
ye may know that I am the LORD
that doth sanctify you. Ye shall
keep the sabbath therefore; for it
is holy unto you: every one that
defileth it shall surely be put to
death: for whosoever doeth any
work therein, that soul shall be
cut off from among his people. Six
days may work be done; but in the
seventh is the sabbath of rest,
holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth
any work in the sabbath day, he
shall surely be put to death.
Wherefore the children of Israel
shall keep the sabbath, to observe
the sabbath throughout their
generations, for a perpetual
covenant. It is a sign between me
and the children of Israel for
ever: for in six days the LORD
made heaven and earth, and on the
seventh day he rested, and was
refreshed.
(Exodus 31:13-17)
Six days shall work be done, but
on the seventh day there shall be
to you an holy day, a sabbath of
rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth
work therein shall be put to
death. Ye shall kindle no fire
throughout your habitations upon
the sabbath day.
(Exodus 35:1,2)
Keep the sabbath day to sanctify
it, as the LORD thy God hath
commanded thee. Six days thou
shalt labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath
of the LORD thy God: in it thou
shalt not do any work, thou, nor
thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy
manservant, nor thy maidservant,
nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor
any of thy cattle, nor thy
stranger that is within thy gates;
that thy manservant and thy
maidservant may rest as well as
thou. And remember that thou wast
a servant in the land of Egypt,
and that the LORD thy God brought
thee out thence through a mighty
hand and by a stretched out arm:
therefore the LORD thy God
commanded thee to keep the sabbath
day.
(Deuteronomy 5:12-15)
It is a good thing to
give thanks unto the LORD, and to
sing praises unto thy name, O most
High: To shew forth thy
lovingkindness in the morning, and
thy faithfulness every night, Upon an instrument of
ten strings, and upon the
psaltery; upon the harp with a
solemn sound. For thou, LORD, hast
made me glad through thy work: I
will triumph in the works of thy
hands. O LORD, how great are
thy works! and thy thoughts are
very deep. A brutish man knoweth
not; neither doth a fool
understand this. When the wicked spring
as the grass, and when all the
workers of iniquity do flourish;
it is that they shall be destroyed
for ever: But thou, LORD, art most
high for evermore. For, lo, thine enemies,
O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies
shall perish; all the workers of
iniquity shall be scattered. But my horn shalt thou
exalt like the horn of an unicorn:
I shall be anointed with fresh
oil. Mine eye also shall see
my desire on mine enemies, and
mine ears shall hear my desire of
the wicked that rise up against
me. The righteous shall
flourish like the palm tree: he
shall grow like a cedar in
Lebanon. Those that be planted
in the house of the LORD shall
flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring
forth fruit in old age; they shall
be fat and flourishing; To shew that the LORD
is upright: he is my rock, and
there is no unrighteousness in
him.
(Psalm 92:1-15)
If thou turn away thy foot from
the sabbath, from doing thy
pleasure on my holy day; and call
the sabbath a delight, the holy of
the LORD, honourable; and shalt
honour him, not doing thine own
ways, nor finding thine own
pleasure, nor speaking thine own
words: Then shalt thou delight
thyself in the LORD; and I will
cause thee to ride upon the high
places of the earth, and feed thee
with the heritage of Jacob thy
father: for the mouth of the LORD
hath spoken it.
(Isaiah 58:13,14)
Jerusalem remembered in
the days of her affliction and of
her miseries all her pleasant
things that she had in the days of
old, when her people fell into the
hand of the enemy, and none did
help her: the adversaries saw her,
and did mock at her sabbaths.
(Lamentations 1:7)
And, behold, there was a
man which had his hand withered.
And they asked him, saying, Is it
lawful to heal on the sabbath
days? that they might accuse him.
And he said unto them, What man
shall there be among you, that
shall have one sheep, and if it
fall into a pit on the sabbath
day, will he not lay hold on it,
and lift it out? How much then is
a man better than a sheep?
Wherefore it is lawful to do well
on the sabbath days. Then saith he
to the man, Stretch forth thine
hand. And he stretched it forth;
and it was restored whole, like as
the other.
(Matthew 12:10-13)
And he said unto them, The sabbath
was made for man, and not man for
the sabbath:

Inspirational Quotes from Famous People |
I feel as if God
had, by giving the Sabbath, given
fifty-two springs in each year.

incivility and procrastination.

Some keep the
Sabbath going to Church - I keep
it, staying at Home - With a

best on the Sabbath? God's
critters tempting decent men.
